Riven was released 1997 on 5 CD-ROMs. That meant a lot of annoying CD swapping which can cut back the positive impression.
In the middle of 1998 Cyan released Riven on DVD. The whole game on one disc - no CD swapping. The picture and sound quality is better and there are some pictures you won't find on the CD-ROM version.
